Fields "updated" in Atom feed xml

According to the "Programming Guide and API Reference", the Atom feed xml received as result of an API-search contains two kind of "updated" fields:

/feed/updated: date and time that the query was issued
/feed/entry/updated: last modified date for the document

Experimenting with the API-search, I found that both the fields contain always the same value, that means the date and time of the query. Why?
