Supported browsers
The administration console and the search page are browser-based. The following browsers are supported:
- Microsoft Internet Explorer 6
- Mozilla Firefox 1.5 and 2.0 (required for Linux installations)
Cookies must be enabled to use the administration console and the search page.
Processor, memory, and disk space requirements
The recommended minimum hardware required for up to 20,000 documents:
- 1 dual core processor at 1.5GHz or better
- 1 GB of RAM
- 80 GB of disk space
The recommended minimum hardware required for up to 100,000 documents:
- 1 dual core processor at 2 GHz or better
- 1 GB of RAM
- 100 GB of disk space
The recommended minimum hardware required for up to 500,000 documents:
- 2 dual core processors at 3 GHz or better
- 2 GB of RAM
- 250 GB of disk space
Important: IBM OmniFind Yahoo! Edition is an enterprise search product, not a desktop search product. As a result, it is recommended that you do not run the search engine for a production environment on a typical notebook or desktop personal computer other than for limited evaluation, testing or development scenarios. Crawling and indexing Web sites and file directories can use up to 100% of the servers processor, network bandwidth or disk space.
Recommendations for production systems:
- Specified disk space is for typical, moderately sized web documents. Documents are cached by default. If you are indexing large content with caching enabled, plan for more disk space usage.
- Running the Web crawler while being connected to the network with a wireless connection can result in poor system performance because of network bandwidth and latency issues. Use a wired, switched ethernet connection.
- A search engine can place a high demand on the processor, memory, and hard drive. Memory requirements typically depend on the number of documents and Web sites that are being crawled. Memory requirements can range from 200 MB to 2 GB of RAM for the search engine process.
- Don't run IBM OmniFind Yahoo! Edition on a shared, hosted server environment.
